About Heliconia inn

In the early 20th century, when Thodupuzha was a quiet agrarian settlement surrounded by paddy fields and bullock carts, Pareed Rawther emerged as a respected landlord and community figure.

Heliconia Inn a Century of Warmth and Welcome

The story of Heliconia Inn begins in the early 1900s, when Thodupuzha was a quiet agrarian landscape of paddy fields, bullock carts, and still waters. Between 1905 and 1910, Pareed Rawther, a respected landlord and community leader, built the ancestral home that stands today as Heliconia Inn. Surrounded by vast cultivation lands and a large pond that once served neighboring families, the estate was a self-sustained world of agriculture and trade. The family maintained hundreds of bulls for farming and transport, reflecting the scale of their holdings.

Pareed Rawther was later honored during a royal visit to Karikode Palace, where the Travancore King bestowed upon him the title “Khan.” He also established Khan Bazaar in Thodupuzha, which remained a privately owned family marketplace for many years. In those silent rural days, the sound of a single “ding-dong” clock inside the house became the timekeeper for surrounding families.

The next generation, led by Said Muhammed Rawther, carried the legacy into the legal profession as one of the first advocates in Idukki District. The home continued to witness life in its purest form — with over 100 children born within its walls.

Later, Dr. S. Muhammed Nazeer upheld the family’s tradition of service through medicine.

In 1985, a new chapter began with Ar. Mehaboob Khan. Together with Ar. Naheedha Mehaboob, the architect duo restored the ancestral home, preserving its handcrafted details while introducing modern comforts. Today, Heliconia Inn stands as a century-old heritage villa — a living bridge between history, family, and contemporary elegance.
